Elanora Retirement Village celebrate 2020 with a Long Table Sundowner.
Did you know that the name ‘Elanora’ actually means ‘happy home by the sea’? Down at the Bethanie Elanora Retirement Village, they are true to their name, and are known to be a very happy, harmonious and social community.
Each year, they come together at Christmas time to celebrate the year that was. This year, the community decided to host a Festive Long Table Sundowner in their own backyard, and toast to the strange year 2020 was.
The team strung glowing solar lights around the tree trunks, hung candles from the large shady trees and put festive lights and beautiful pot plants through the surrounding area.
The candles sat in glass jars filled with seashells and beach sand and hung from the trees in locally made macramé hangers – a beautiful tribute to the meaning of their home.
The Elanora community enjoyed a very elegant feast fit for the occasion. The festive menu included arancini balls, lamb koftas, mini quiches, home-made sausage rolls, lemon meringue tarts, mince pies and profiteroles. Everything was served and enjoyed while listening to a live band, Country Grass, who really brought the evening to life.
No Christmas feast is complete without a visit from Santa. The man himself arrived on a vintage Harley motorcycle – much to the surprise of the residents!
Everyone had the opportunity to re-live their childhood and sit on Santa’s knee and receive a Christmas lolly bag.
Bethanie Elanora Village Manager, Lyn Ferguson, said: “Not many held back! They all wanted to sit on Santa’s knee!”
This is just one of the many wonderful celebrations Bethanie has hosted for their community. Catch the festive updates from other Bethanie sites by following us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/bethaniegroupwa
