Bethanie Scarborough Resident Gets Back In The Surf!
Bethanie Scarborough resident, James Johnston aged 77, has taken his first swim at the beach since suffering a stroke several years ago.
Bethanie Community Care therapy staff used a beach wheelchair provided by the City of Joondalup and helped Mr Johnston into the water at Hillarys marina this month.
Physiotherapist Violet O’Driscoll said Mr Johnston and his wife frequently walked and swam at the beach prior to his stroke and he wished to wade in the ocean again.
“He had a thoroughly enjoyable and safe experience,” she said. “He loved feeling the sand under his feet, feeling the water and watching the little fish swimming by. “He was the happiest we have seen him.”
