Bethanie Beachside Competes In Livelighter Aged Care Games
Recently nine residents from Bethanie Beachside in Yanchep, Perth’s most northern Aged Care Home, took part in the annual LiveLighter Aged Care Games at Bouncer Sport Centre in Joondalup. Competing against other aged care facilities in the north, Bethanie Beachside brought their fighting spirit for the competition and had a wonderful day.
The Seniors Recreation Council of WA’s LiveLighter Aged Care Games are designed to offer seniors in care an opportunity to once again experience being part of a team and enjoy social interaction with others, along with an element of competition.
The annual event is held in various regional and metro locations and provides trophies, medals and plaques for the winning teams and participation medals for all entrants. The Champion of Champions Perpetual Trophy is presented to the team with the highest score throughout the year.
To prepare for the games Bethanie Beachside residents competed in their own mini-games called the Beth-a-lympics, where other Bethanie sites joined them for a morning of fun and healthy competition. Participating teams competed in the same four events which took place at the LiveLighter Aged Care Games; skittles, beanbag toss, seated hockey and seated pass ball.
Bethanie Beachside Physiotherapist Rebecca Farrell says,
“We had a great time at our Beth-a-lympics event this year, preparing for the LiveLighter games. We have some competitive residents who trained weekly for this event. It’s a solid fixture on our annual calendar and an all-round brilliant way to keep our residents active and social.”
The LiveLighter Aged Care Games are held annually in Albany, Avon, Belmont, Boddington, Bunbury, Geraldton, Joondalup, Margaret River, Peel, & Rockingham.
Bethanie Beachside offers a continuum of care with an Aged Care Home and Retirement Village on the same site. For more information or to put your name on a waitlist for Bethanie Beachside contact 131 151.
